MIDTERM

For each problem below, write down your calculationsand box your final answer.

1.   (12 points) The length of course AB is 100 ft.

Calculate the following for course AB:

a) Bearing

b) Azimuth

c) Latitude

d) Departure

2.   (6 points) Determine the elevation difference between points A and B:

Vertical angel: Θ = 3o33’ 33’’

Slope distance: L = 300ft

Rod reading: RR = 4.5ft

Height of instrument: HI =  5ft

Elevation at A: 500 ft

3.   (9 points) Calculate the elevation at point C

hA = 4.5 ft

hFSB = 2.5 ft

hBSB = 5.5 ft

hc = 2 ft

Elevation at A: 1000 ft


4.   (16  points)  A   field  investigation  was  performed   and  yielded  the   following information:

A1 = 500 ft2

A2 = 1500 ft2

Am = 1000 ft2

The table  below  shows  the  cost  per  cubic  yard

(CY)  of  earth  cut  and  filled  for  the  proposed project.

5.   (22 points)  The interior angles in the closed traverse below were measured as follows:

θ1  = 23o4'10" , θ2  = 115o43'31" , and θ3   = 41o11'52" .

a)  Compute the adjusted interior angles in this traverse. (18 points)

b)  Name two methods for computing the area of a closed traverse. You do not need to calculate the area.  (4 points)

6.   (20 points) In the following diagram, the length of AB is  300 ft.

a)  Compute the latitude of AB. (10 points)

b)  Compute the departure of AB. (10 points)

7.   (15 points) The course AB has following latitude and departure:

Lat:   - 170.5 ft

Dep: - 185.2 ft

a)   Compute the bearing of AB. (5 points)

b)  Compute the azimuth of AB. (5 points)

c)   Compute the length of AB. (5 points)
